This year, make it a holiday to remember with Christmas near the North Pole. Svalbard does Christmas just as it’s meant to be, with snow-covered landscapes, northern lights, good food and drinks, and a peaceful atmosphere. Although Rudolph will be busy helping Santa, there are plenty of other reindeer to meet in Longyearbyen, where you will spend two magical nights in a rustic lodge. Of course, this wouldn’t be a real Arctic Christmas without a husky safari and snowmobile tour!
Who is this tour for? This tour is suitable for active travellers looking for a truly unique Christmas experience.
Day 1: A Warm Arctic Welcome!
Arrive at Longyear Airport in Svalbard followed by a private transfer to the Basecamp Trapper’s Lodge in Longyearbyen, your accommodation for the next 2 nights. It may be chilly outside but your welcome at the lodge is as warm as can be with a hot Christmas drink! The rest of your day is free to explore Longyearbyen as you wish, perhaps with a visit to the Svalbard Museum or with a bit of holiday shopping at the local shops. Dinner is also up to you this evening though we recommend the charming Restaurant Kroa. And if conditions are right, you may see some brilliant displays of the northern lights being going to bed.*
* Please note that the northern lights (aurora borealis) are a natural phenomenon and sightings cannot be guaranteed.
Highlights: Longyearbyen.
Day 2: Husky Adventure in the Wild
After breakfast at the hotel, your guide arrives to meet with you and drive you to the dog kennel where 90 Alaskan huskies eagerly await to take you on a magical dog sled excursion! As you mush through the frozen landscapes with only the sounds of the dogs and the scraping of the sled against the ice, this is sure to be an experience to remember. In the afternoon, your guide returns you to the Trapper’s Lodge where you can enjoy a warm drink and some well-deserved relaxation time. For an authentic dining experience this evening, we recommend the 4-course Arctic dinner at the legendary Huset Restaurant.
Highlights: Husky Safari.
Day 3: Snowmobile Safari and Departure
Enjoy a good breakfast before your guide picks you up for your final Arctic adventure: a Polar Night Safari by snowmobile over vast glaciers, with the possibility of northern lights shimmering overhead. What a way to end a holiday! You are then returned to town with enough time to freshen up before heading to the airport by bus or taxi for your return flight.
Highlights: Snowmobile Safari.
